About This Place

Welcome to Artisan Roast Broughton Street, a beloved gem nestled in the heart of Edinburgh at 57 Broughton St. This cafe is more than just a coffee shop; it’s a vibrant community hub that celebrates the art of specialty coffee and local culture. With a commitment to quality, Artisan Roast takes pride in roasting their own beans, ensuring that each cup delivers a unique and rich taste experience.

As you step inside, you’re greeted by an inviting atmosphere that feels cozy and artistic, adorned with local artworks and charming decor. It’s the kind of place that feels perfect on a drizzly Edinburgh day, where the ambiance encourages you to linger a little longer. The menu offers an impressive array of beverages, from the robust Macchiato (£3.60) to the lavishly creamy Mocha (£5.10) and delightful Chai Tea Latte, which one patron described as "so creamy" and perfectly complemented with honey drizzle.

Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate the attention to detail here. While some customers have expressed their desire for a wider selection of medium or dark roasts, many others rave about the unique tasting opportunities that Artisan Roast provides. Roasting their beans allows them to showcase different processing methods, resulting in distinctive flavor profiles that excite the palate. As noted by a regular patron, the ability to sample brews before making a selection adds an interactive element to your coffee experience.

But Artisan Roast Broughton Street isn’t just about coffee. The cafe also boasts a menu filled with quality sandwiches and pastries. The pastrami sandwich is a standout, loaded with ingredients that promise satisfaction at every bite. While the pastries may be regarded as modest, they complement your coffee nicely with options for a light snack.

In summary, Artisan Roast Broughton Street is the ideal destination for both coffee aficionados and casual visitors. Whether you're catching up with friends over a Flat White (£3.90) or enjoying a quiet moment with a book and a slice of cake, this cafe embodies the spirit of community and quality that makes Edinburgh’s food scene so remarkable. So, next time you’re wandering through the city, make sure to stop by Artisan Roast – it’s a decision your taste buds will thank you for!

I purchased two different types of coffee bean today and tried two others. I find the coffees to lack body and seem a little coarse. Maybe the roaster likes light roasts but I like medium/dark and I don't think this roaster has it for your Italian style beans that are good for cappuccino. I am not convinced this roaster uses the best of quality beans but it could be they are not getting the best out of them.

Gorgeous atmosphere, which felt perfect with the light rain! Lovely service, it felt very welcoming. They had a range of options, I opted for the chai tea latte with some honey drizzle (which was so creamy) and a cinnamon bun! My partner had a mocha, which they also had a range of options for, and an almond croissant. Perfect place for a small bite to eat.

Visited a lot of times, they have multiple locations in Edinburgh. They are a coffee roaster and no doubt their coffees are excellent in quality, will never let you down!! They serve good sandwiches and pastries too. Absolutely one of my favourite cafes in Edinburgh!!

Artisan Roast on Broughton Street is one of Edinburgh's original specialty coffee spots, and it's always felt like a true community hub. It's a really arty place too, with cool blackboards and interesting local art everywhere. The coffee here is fantastic. They roast their own beans, and I love that you can often try different processing methods (washed vs. natural) to really taste the difference. It's a real treat for coffee lovers. Pastries are fine, but nothing to write home about. However, their sandwiches are seriously good – loaded with ingredients. The pastrami sandwich is my go-to! Definitely pop into Artisan Roast on Broughton Street if you're visiting Edinburgh. It's a great spot for a top-notch coffee in a cool, local setting.

Was expecting to get great coffee which I did. Extra happy to report that the salami sandwich was also excellent! The guys there were so nice and helpful too. Got to sample a couple brews before deciding on some beans.

It's a small cute coffee shop. The place is quite small, so it can be hard to find a seat. The coffee was really tasty, but we didn’t enjoy the pastries that much. While buying coffees, i saw something I personally find a bit odd — the pos machine asking for a tip upfront, kind of like the weird practice that started in the U.S. and seems to be spreading here too.

It was our first visit to Edinburgh and we were so lucky to stay at a place that was just a walking distance from this cafe. We came here every morning to have a filter coffee and a flat white. We came here frequently enough that we got the 10 stamps to earn a free drink! This is a place that is serious about their beans and the way they prepare each coffee. They obviously have built a good relationship with their local customers who come in every morning on their way to work and they are also very welcoming to tourists like us. We especially love the political ethos of the place - and the weirdly cool decor that delivers that message. Kudos to every barista who works here who just radiate so much kindness and care. There is a nice seating area in the back where one can sit, read, and enjoy your coffee while being surrounded by plants. They also sell beans and we cannot wait to try the beans that we purchased. This coffee shop is not to be missed!

The ideal coffee shop. Friendly and welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. Delicious batch brews from different origins, all those I tried were top quality, nicely cared for and distinctive-tasting. Would definitely look no further when after a good coffee in Edinburgh
